How to Record Work Effectively Using Sole Invoice

Recording Work Effectively

Recording time spent on client projects is essential for accurate invoicing and project management. Sole Invoice allows you to easily log your work hours and associate them with specific clients. Creating invoices is then a breeze as all your recorded work is readily available to be included in your invoices.

Selecting a Client

Get started by navigating to the "Work" page via the sidebar, and then click "Record Work" in the top right corner. From there, select a client from the dropdown menu. Only active clients will be shown.

Enter Work Details

Next we need to select a work type, there are three types available "Job", "Hourly" and "Daily". All work types require a date to be selected.

Job

A job is a one-off task that has a fixed price. When selecting "Job" as the work type, you will need to enter an amount for the job as well as a job name. When included in an invoice the job will appear as a single line item with the specified amount.

Hourly

Hourly work is used to record time spent on a task at an hourly rate. When selecting "Hourly" as the work type, you will need to enter the number of worked. The total amount (once the invoice is created) will be calculated by multiplying the hours worked by the client's hourly rate, which is set in the client settings.

Daily

Daily work is used to record time spent on a task at a daily rate. When selecting "Daily" as the work type, you will need to enter the date worked. The total amount (once the invoice is created) will be calculated by multiplying the days worked by the client's daily rate, which is set in the client settings.

Override Line Item Name

In cases when we don't want the default line item name to be used for the work we are recording, we can override it by specifying a custom name in the "Override Line Item Name" field. This is useful when we want to provide more context about the work performed, or when the work performed was a different type.

Save Work

Once all the required fields are filled out, click the "Create Work Item" button to record the work entry.

Further Actions

If you are feeling adventurous you can now head over to the "Invoices" page and create an invoice for the client you just recorded work for. All un-invoiced work will be available to add to the invoice, making the invoicing process quick and efficient.
